El Hornillo

The El Hornillo dock, located in the bay of the same name, is an impressive metal structure built in the early 1900s under engineer Gustavo Gillman, used to load ore from the Sierra de Bacares in Almería.

This dive has very low difficulty since, always close to the wall that forms the dock's base, full of life and sheltering us from even the slightest current, it starts at 4 m and goes down to 13 m, making it ideal for any diver profile.

Along the way you can see sponges, sea anemones (including plenty of Actinia equina, or beadlet anemones), sea urchins and lots of fish: scorpionfish, blennies, salema, two-banded bream, painted combers and damselfish, all while soaking up more than a century of history. In a hidden corner of this area, our divers have spotted a spectacular specimen of Hippocampus guttulatus which, due to its size and colour, is one of the highlights of this dive.
