La Cresta

The dive slopes gradually from 5 metres down, and it owes its name to a rocky outcrop of Isla del Fraile that dips underwater in the shape of a crest. The maximum depth of the dive varies depending on several factors, but generally reaches 18-20 metres.

The geomorphology of the area shows a wall with a very gentle slope, with large boulders and rockfalls, ending in a plain of coastal detritic sediment. This dive runs along the wall and among the boulders, bordered to the west by a large meadow of Posidonia oceanica and to the south by the sandy plain. Thanks to its westward orientation, it's sheltered from the easterly swells that dominate the area. It doesn't present other difficulties such as currents or major drops either.

As for the biological communities you'll find on this dive, there's a large amount of algae such as Padina pavonica, Asparagopsis armata and Halopteris filicina. Among the easy-to-spot fauna you'll find sponges, sea anemones, polychaete worms, sea urchins and plenty of fish: scorpionfish, moray eels, blennies, salema, two-banded bream, painted combers and damselfish. Depending on the season you might also find groupers, common dentex, barracudas and even different types of rays. We're proud to say that in recent years, around 90% of the time, we've spotted seahorses, both females and males, the latter often in different stages of pregnancy.
