Pared Sur (La Boya)

Of the three dives around Isla del Fraile, Pared Sur (also known as La Boya) is the one found on the outermost part of the island, with a gradual slope starting from 7 metres deep.

From there, the slope steepens, gaining depth down to 30 metres, although dives here usually stay around 20-22 metres, which allows the dive time to be extended to around 45-50 minutes.

The geomorphology of the area shows a vertical wall, which starts in a rockfall area forming a platform, from which the vertical wall resumes, ending in a plain of coastal detritic sediment at 30 metres deep. This dive runs along the wall and among the boulders, bordered to the west by a small meadow of Posidonia oceanica and to the south by a large sandy plain where you can spot spectacular specimens of Cerianthus membranaceus.

This dive doesn't present major difficulties such as currents, but it does reach greater depths than the other dives around Isla del Fraile. The biological communities you'll find are similar to those at La Cresta and El Mogote, though in better condition: plenty of algae such as Padina pavonica, Asparagopsis armata and Halopteris filicina, sponges, sea anemones, polychaete worms, sea urchins and fish such as scorpionfish, moray eels, blennies, salema, two-banded bream, painted combers and damselfish. Depending on the season, groupers, common dentex, barracudas and even different types of rays.
